Some projects may require funding in order to fulfill the level of research required. The principal investigator--with input from ICTCR staff when needed--is responsible for negotiating sponsored research and obtaining funding. ICTCR will assist with creating a budget for industry-sponsored clinical trials. Overhead costs are typically around 10 percent; adjustments, however, are possible, depending on commitments of the organization. Research involving collaborating institutions may require additional budget considerations necessitated by policies at partner institutions. Des Moines University has a negotiated federal indirect-cost rate and this may be factored into joint grant applications. Audits Several of the research areas of clinical units have successfully completed the FDA audit. The Mercy Medical Center Foundation is a 501c3 organization that may serve as a fiscal agent for sponsored research. Its audit history is available upon request Partner institutions are also designated as non-profit organizations and may serve as lead fiscal agents on grants and contracts. Each has a clean audit history and additional information is available. Access to information may be facilitated through ICTCR. |
